Gage

“What is wrong with you, man? You’ve been off since you got here,” Parker says as he sits on the couch and turns on some music from his phone. It’s been three days since I left Jade’s apartment, and I haven’t done much but sit and stew over why I walked away and how I could leave her there like that. The look on her face when I left still haunts me, and I hate myself for the fact that I didn’t tell her I’d do anything to make her happy. So, when Parker called and asked if I was up for a party, the answer was a resounding no. But I couldn’t explain why, so I just decided to suck it up and head over to his place.

That was a big mistake.

Pictures of Jade are everywhere I look, and every time I glance over at my best friend, I see his sister staring back at me, begging me to love her enough to fight for what we both want.

“Gage, three o’clock,” Parker mumbles, nudging me with his elbow as he starts kissing the neck of some girl that sat on his lap. “She’s been checking you out since you got here.” I look to my right and see a gorgeous girl with bright red hair, blue eyes, and legs for days. Before I can think better of it, I get out of my chair, hearing Parker mutter something about getting laid behind me, and head toward the girl who clearly wants more than just a conversation.

“Hey there, handsome.” Her fingers graze the exposed skin of my chest that peeks out from the collar of my shirt. “I haven’t seen you around here before...” Her words are breathy, wistful, and a bit desperate, and repulsion starts in the pit of my stomach and rolls through my body with every pass of her fingers against my skin. But I try to push that away, shove it all down and hope for something, anything, to help me get the image of Jade out of the recesses of my mind.

Her lips lightly brush the column of my neck, and as I close my eyes, I briefly feel desire start to build. I almost feel a sense of normalcy rise, something I haven’t felt since starting with Jade six years ago.

“You like that?” Red whispers in my ear as her fingers find my cock. For a split second, I wonder if I should just fuck her. Do it and see if I can get over Jade once and for all. But the second her lips trail up my neck and land on mine, I push her away.

“Sorry, I can’t,” I croak, feeling my entire body back away from a woman any other man would kill to have against him. Yet here I am, comparing the way her fingers feel against my skin to the way Jade knows just the right pressure to use to cause both pleasure and pain. I’m comparing how Red smells like a meadow to how Jade smells like coconuts and fresh vanilla.
